Freefrom food sector growing
The FreeFrom Food Awards has shortlisted a selection of products from gluten-free pasta to sheep's milk ice cream to celebrate the success and development of the sector.
Michelle Berriedale-Johnson, editor of foodsmatter.com, said that now in its third year, the awards received more than 100 entries for cakes and bread compared to just 30 when it launched in 2008.
She commented: "Important though a tasty cake is to those with allergies, cakes and biscuits alone do not really make up balanced diet.
"So it great that the freefrom offers now also includes ready meals, soups, ready-to-cook pastry, ingredients and even gluten-free beer."
Celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson will host the event in London next month.
Coeliac UK reports that gluten-free diets Awareness Week is scheduled for May this year.
